Mumbai (ANI): Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan along with south Indian superstar Mohanlal promoted ‘Kandahar’, a Malayalam language film. The film is written and directed by Major Ravi who was also present at the event, and jointly produced by Sunil C. Nair (under Zoe Estebe Moviez) and Mohanlal (under Pranavam Arts International).
“It has been a wonderful experience working in this film. I have to give credit to Major Ravi and Mohan Lal for the very efficient manner in which shooting was conducted. We shot for a few days in Ooty,” said Bachchan. “I was amazed at the kind of organization and discipline the management had that goes behind the making of this film,” he added.
Lal said the film was special as Bachchan was acting in a Malayalam film for the first time. “It gives me immense pleasure and pride in presenting before you ‘Kandahar’. It is a special film for us, especially for the Kerala audience. This is for the first time Amitabh Bachchan gives a presence in Malayalam cinema,” said Lal.
Shamir Tandon has composed the music of the film. Starring Bachchan, Lal, Ganesh Venkatraman, Sumalatha, Parvathy Omanakuttan, Kaveri Jha, and Ananya among others, the film is based on the hijacking incident of the Indian Airlines Flight 814 in December 1999.
Flight 814 was on its way from Tribhuvan International Airport in Nepal to Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, when it was hijacked. Harkat-ul-Mujahideen, a Pakistan-based terrorist group, was accused for the hijacking. The hijackers forced the aircraft to land in Kandahar, Afghanistan. The hijackers released 27 of 176 passengers but fatally stabbed one and wounded several others.
